A recent study found that those who took the generic version of the heartburn drug Nexium in 2011 and 2013 experienced a lower risk of developing.
Researchers from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC) published the new study, which was presented at the American Society of Clinical Endocrinology meeting in September 2013.
“The fact that we were able to identify a higher prevalence of heartburn symptoms with the generic version of Nexium than with the brand-name drug, indicates that it’s possible to prevent heartburn with this drug,” said lead researcher and study author Dr. Robert E. Schmitt, MD, of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
“This is particularly important given that the prevalence of heartburn was found to increase with a higher dosage of the generic version.”
Schmitt noted that the current study was designed to investigate whether the generic drug would be more effective than the brand-name drug in reducing heartburn symptoms. He said that he was not aware of studies that have investigated the effectiveness of the brand-name drug on reducing heartburn symptoms.
“We think that the generic version is an option,” he said. “We don’t know what would be optimal. We’re just going to take the medication, and if it was effective, we think it would be better.”
Researchers had recruited 18,000 participants from three randomized clinical trials to participate in the study. They had taken Nexium or a generic version of the drug for at least four weeks.
The participants were randomly assigned to receive either Nexium or a generic version of the drug, or a placebo. They were also randomly assigned to take the generic version of the drug, or their respective, brand-name drug. The researchers measured heartburn symptoms using a questionnaire. They found that the generic version was associated with a lower risk of developing heartburn than the brand-name drug, compared with the brand-name drug.
However, the researchers did not see any significant differences in the risk of heartburn between the two treatment groups, compared with the brand-name drug. They also did not see any difference in the risk of developing heartburn symptoms between the two treatment groups.
The study did not find any statistically significant differences in heartburn symptoms between the two treatment groups. However, Schmitt noted that the research team found that the brand-name drug was associated with a lower risk of heartburn symptoms, compared with the generic drug. “It is important to note that there was no difference in heartburn severity between the treatment groups,” he said.
The research was published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism in November 2014.

The exact dosage and duration of treatment depends on the condition being treated. In most cases, esomeprazole is prescribed to reduce stomach acid production by up to 50% to reduce the frequency of episodes of heartburn. In the case of esomeprazole use, this can be achieved by taking the drug within 1 hour of the start of a heartburn episode. In cases of heartburn, the dosage can be adjusted to the patient's specific symptoms and the duration of the course of treatment can be extended. For acid reflux, the duration of treatment can be increased to reduce the frequency of episodes of acid reflux. In cases of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, the dosage can be adjusted to the individual patient's specific symptoms, and the duration of the course of treatment can be extended.
Esomeprazole is a PPI (Proton Pump Inhibitor) drug that works by reducing the amount of acid produced in the stomach. As a result, it can effectively treat conditions such as GERD, peptic ulcers, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
The dosage and duration of treatment are dependent on the severity of the condition being treated and the specific symptoms of the person being treated. For GERD and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, the dosage can be adjusted depending on the severity of the condition being treated and the specific symptoms of the person being treated.
For Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, the dosage can be adjusted to the individual patient's specific symptoms, and the duration of the course of treatment can be extended.

Therapeutic duplicationThe maximum allowed dose should not exceed 5 mg to 20 mg per day. The dose is determined by your healthcare provider based on the severity of the condition being treated, the duration of the treatment, and the patient's specific symptoms and response to treatment. The duration of treatment depends on the specific symptoms being treated and the specific needs of the patient. For example, the duration of treatment for Zollinger-Ellison syndrome depends on the severity of the condition being treated and the specific symptoms of the patient being treated. Therefore, it is essential to follow the prescribed dosage and duration of treatment even if your symptoms improve. In some cases, the dosage may be increased to a maximum of 5 mg to 20 mg per day.
Possible side effectsSome of the common side effects of esomeprazole include gastrointestinal symptoms like nausea, diarrhea, and stomach pain. These side effects are usually mild and tend to disappear after a short time. However, if they persist or become bothersome, contact your healthcare provider.
